The start of the residency coincided with Remember the Future, a group exhibition in the Gallery, with Ackroyd & Harvey, Nestor Pestana and Bryony Benge-Abbot, showing Colourfield and Gyratory.
For a couple of months Eloise and I spent time in the archives, explored the site, talked to staff and visitors, and visited the National Physical Laboratory, close by and home to the world’s first atomic clock. A blog on this first part of our residency can be found here.
During this time, I created a series of collages, assembling research material over watercolour marks made after a walk through the Orleans House woods – two of these shown above.
Now we are developing work for exhibition in 2025. With local groups, we will measure every tree on site, without using established units. The idea is to re-open the field of measurement to the imagination.
